Scripture Meditation - What is it?
I love to meditate and have been doing so for years. It was a little scary starting, because I thought I had to sit and not think for 20 minutes. That sounded crazy! My brain is too busy for that.
I started little by little. You can read my journey from newbie to meditation lover here. I include all the tools I used. I learned that there are many ways to meditate and all can benefit you.
Meditate Using Scripture
Today I want to teach you how to easily meditate, using the scriptures. It is a combination of all that I have learned over the past years put into an easy to do 3-5 minute chunk of time. I am so excited to share it with you. I know that everyone can benefit from this and start doing it right away.
From someone who has never meditated before to someone with years of experience.
Instructions
- Start by taking 3 deep breaths
- Sing a Hymn
- Touch Fingers one at a time with your thumb and chant “Be Still and Know that I am God.” (really any scripture or hymn) ** for 3 minutes.
- (Advanced option – Say it: out loud, whisper, silent, whisper, out loud)
- Then be silent for 1 minute. (As you have thoughts just let them float away)
This isn’t science, this is following the Spirit. So pray about it and figure out what works best for you. I tend to do something a little different every day. Though I start with deep breaths and end with a minute of silence.
Some of My favorite things to chant.
Be Still and Know that I am God.
Feast Upon the Words of Christ.
I Know that My Redeemer Lives.
Rejoice, rejoice the Savior has Come.
